Trail

Date: May 27, 2017

The trail we took is the most popular Amicalola Falls via East Ridge Loop Trail*.

Length: 2.2 miles

Level: Moderate

We went to the east side first, which is a slow climb to the mountain top, where the fall begins. Then from the top of the fall, we descended through a series of steep wooden stairs, part of which cross the bottom of the fall. The view of the fall on that section of the bridge was spatular. One the way down, we passed a small lake/pond and sat down and relaxed before finishing the last section of the trail.

The difference between East route vs. West route is that the east is a gradual climb vs. the west is steep stairs near the fall with the rest of the road being relatively flat. Make selection at your own preference and condition.

There are many other trails in the area with various lengths. As the park is only 8 miles from the Appalachian Trail, and sits in the Chattahoochee National Forest, there are a lot of selections for hikers.
