Unicoi State Park, Georgia
Unicoi State Park & Lodge is a 1,050-acre state park located 2 miles northeast of Helen, Georgia in the northeastern portion of the state. The centerpiece of the park is a beautiful 53-acre Unicoi Lake on Smith Creek, within the Chattahoochee National Forest.
The park is especially popular in summer for retreat/beach/swimming, and in October, when the autumn leaves in the forest change colors. For family fun, besides the outdoor adventure, there are archery and target shooting, flying fishing, paddle boarding, boat rentals, zip lining, and mountain biking.
Per our own experience, the park is a relative small, but cute and lovely to serve as a weekend retreat, or a stop as part of excursion in the region.

Trail
Date: July 1st, 2017
There are two trails in this area:
Unicoi Lake Loop Trail: 2.2 mi, easy and flat, which we hiked
Unicoi to Helen Trail: 5.1 mi, moderate
We went for the zip line first for the kids in the lodge in the morning first per prior reservation. The location is right at the southeast corner of the lake on the other side of road GA-356. Then we hiked and completed the Unicoi Lake Loop Trail.
You will pass a small beach and swimming area to take summer heat off if you want to. The view on the dam was stunning with lake, trees, and hills in the Chattahoochee National Forest in distance.
